As longevity increases and retirees make up a larger segment of our
population, the sustainability of defined-benefit plans such as Social
Security and employer pension plans have become uncertain.  For
instance, at last estimate experts predict the Social Security fund may
become exhausted as early as 2033 if left unreformed.  Therefore, it is
more important than ever for workers to fund an increasing portion of
their own retirement.

If you work for a non-profit organization (eg. schools, hospitals,
churches and other municipal organizations), there’s a good chance
your employer has sponsored a 403(b) retirement plan for you to help
you do just that.  In 2012 these plans allow you to contribute up to
$17,000 ($22,500 if you’re at least 50 years old) pre-tax through payroll
deduction.  The contributions you make are yours and are eligible for
rollover into an IRA, should you ever want to leave your employer.

Hartmann Financial Group is equipped to install 403(b) plans at
minimal to no cost to the employer and is appointed to serve as adviser
to participant accounts invested with a number of mutual fund and
annuity companies.  Regular meetings are scheduled with participants
to enroll them in their employer’s 403(b), choose a retirement strategy
and recommend suitable investments for that strategy.  As an added
benefit, we will also review other components of the participant’s
financial plan and look for additional ways focus their strategy.  If you
are eligible to participate in a 403(b) plan or would like your non-profit
employer to consider sponsoring one, please contact us.
